T he device h as a power s witch that provides t he VBUS vol tage at t he USB output po rts with minimal voltage drop. When the EN# pin is logic low, the power switch is ON, and VCC is connected to the output VOUT. When the EN# pin is logic high, the power switch is OFF, an d no po wer is available at the output. The p ower s witch has f ull o ver-current protection. Whenever t he c urrent l imit of th e s witch is exceeded, t he de vice enters a c onstant-current mode, wher e the output vo ltage is pr ogressively reduced t o prevent t he current f rom inc reasing further. The OC# output becomes active low only if the o vercurrent condition ex ceeds at le ast 10ms. This fault blanking delay prevents false alarms from being reported to the host USB controller. If t he overcurrent c ondition i s sev ere en ough that the part heats up to the thermal limit TMAX, then the switch will be turned off an d t he t emperature c ools down. A t T MIN th e s witch th en tu rns on again, an d the device heats up again, and so on, until the fault is removed. The CM 3513 al so p revents ba ckdrive cu rrent flowing into the host from the c onnected peripheral. This can o ccur w hen V CC is removed as the hos t powers d own, a nd th e peripheral s till h as nor mal power applied. T he 5 V f rom the peripheral c an therefore be l inked t o t he hos t’s VBUS, po tentially causing b ackdrive c urrent i nto t he host a nd overloading the peripheral power supply.
